Yoga for Beginners: Your Guide to Three Popular Types of Clases de Yoga

August 22, 2019

Yoga is an excellent way to increase your strength and flexibility. It can also help you learn how to become more relaxed and focused in your life. There are many types of clases de yoga, and it can be hard to decide which one to take. Before signing up for your next yoga retreat, read more about three of the most common types of yoga.

Hatha yoga

Hatha is a general category that includes a mix of different yoga styles. Clases de yoga that focuses on Hatha teaches the practice of asanas, or different postures, and pranayama, or breathing exercises. This yoga is designed to bring peace to the practitioner’s body and mind.

Hatha yoga is usually a gentler class, where students hold poses for a longer time than other types. It is a great option for beginner students and those who need a gentler style because of injuries. Depending on the class, music may be played.

Iyengar yoga

Iyengar is a type of yoga that was developed by B.K.S. Iyengar and focuses on the musculoskeletal alignment within each pose. Asanas are typically held for much longer than many other styles of yoga, and the class moves at a slower pace so students can get deep into the postures. There is usually no music.

Iyengar yoga is also notable for its use of props, such as blankets, belts, and chairs. These props help teach students how to move appropriately into the asana. They are also used to accommodate injuries and work on muscle tightness.

Vinyasa yoga

Vinyasa is a popular yoga style that focuses on the flowing movement between poses rather than holding a pose for a specific amount of time. The continuous flow from one pose to the next is why this is sometimes called flow yoga.

The most common sequence used in vinyasa is the sun salutation sequence. Depending on the level of the class, flow in this sequence can be slow or fast. Music is often played during these classes and it is a common style offered during a yoga retreat.

You can find clases de yoga in these and other areas of yoga, such as Yin and Ashtanga, at a range of levels. Contact your local yoga studio to find the best yoga retreat for you. The instructors can help you decide which yoga style to focus on based on your interests, needs, and fitness level.
